Black History Month. which is also referred to as also as African American History Month is often celebrated every year in February. This is a yearly celebration that that African Americans have chosen to observe the role of African-Americans in United State’s. history and governance.

Black History allows us to slow down, take our time to stop, think and ponder on juse how far we have come as a people, and how we have been able to come in terms with the events of the previous year, and how to make credible choices as to making new change for the better.

Black History Month is one that is often used as a way to reflect on the previous months activities and how African Americans have fared in those months. AfricanAmericanGrants.org has compiled 11 things that you should know about this Black History Month.

1. Black History Month

Black History Month started in 1915, this was after the Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery in the United States. It has continued to keep its legacy, and created even bigger awareness to show case the celebration nationwide, and it has grown to an international celebration

The brainchild of noted historian Dr. Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.  Negro History Week was celebrated in the second week of February to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass .

3. Black History Month Longevity

Black History Month is often packed full with activities of different event inspired schools and communities nationwide to organize local celebrations, establish history clubs and host performances and lectures to help commemorate this date.
